When someone is insulted, they are being treated with disrespect or contempt. The Bible has a lot to say about how we should respond to being insulted. We are told to not repay evil for evil (Romans 12:17), to turn the other cheek (Matthew 5:39), and to love our enemies (Luke 6:27). These scriptures teach us that we should not seek revenge when we are insulted, but instead we should forgive those who have wronged us.
Matthew 6:14-15 says, “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.” This scripture is a reminder that we must forgive those who have hurt us, if we want to be forgiven by God.
1 Peter 3:9 says, “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.” This verse tells us that we should not retaliate when we are insulted, but instead we should respond with blessings.
Proverbs 15:1 says, “A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” This scripture teaches us that it is better to respond to an insult with kindness, rather than with more anger. When we are insulted, we should remember to not seek revenge, to forgive those who have wronged us, and to respond with blessing instead of more anger.
